Blazer Heart Breakers

Not to be a downer, but this post focuses on the heartache of Blazer losses.  If you're like me, games like the Magic game on Tuesday stay with you for a little bit.  I was pissed all night.

I was at the Orlando game on Tuesday, screaming my head off in section 221.  The game was great, the Rose Garden was going nuts, and we were well on our way to a 8-0 home record, a 16-7 overall record and a firm standing as the #2 team in the west.  After these recent years of running afoul of the law and holding lottery parties instead of playoff parties, this was a huge stepping-stone type of game against one of the league's top teams.  I felt it was important that we made a statement and we were about to make it.  Then Hedayet Türkoğlu banked in a three from the top of the key and pretty much punched 20,000 fans in the face.  It completely ruined my night. This loss is a Level III loss in Bill Simmons' Levels of Losing: the "stomach punch" (only with less damage because it's an early season game - but it still hurts nonetheless).

I was trying to figure out if this loss upset me more than the recent Boston loss.  Or the blown calls at the end of the Golden State game.  Or the embarassment of opening night.  Where does this rank among our worst losses this year?  Is this worse than opening night when we got blown out on national TV (in LA of all places) and lost Oden?  Or what about when Anthony Morrow molested Rudy, only to have the foul go against Fernandez, thus icing the game for the Warriors in Oakland?  What about when KG and the Celtics bullied us for another beatdown on national television.  And we can't forget about the times when we've given up healthy leads on the road to Phoenix and New Orleans.  Which loss hurts worst?  And what's your all-time worst Blazer loss?  Does Tuesday's Magic game rank anywhere on your list?  My list goes as follows (If you want to get really pissed and maybe break a few things out of frustration, click on the you tube reminder for each):

#1: 2000, Game 7 WCF vs. Lakers - MOTHERF*****!!!!! REMINDER

#2: 1991, Game 6 WCF vs. Lakers - Magic tosses the ball down the court to run the clock down to nothing, our league-best record goes down the drain.  The only time I cried after a game.  I was 9. REMINDER

#3: 1992, Game 6 Finals vs. Bulls - Another blown lead. REMINDER

#4: 1990, Game 4 Finals vs. Pistons - My boy Danny Young hits a long three-point shot at the buzzer to tie the game.  The shot got waved off, leading me to go from jubilant to instantly depressed. REMINDER

#5: 2008, Meaningless Game vs. the Magic
- Probably because I was in attendance.  Probably because I need to see a psychiatrist over my obsession with the Blazers.  It hurt bad. REMINDER

#6: 1989: Clyde "The Glide" Drexler vs. Kenny "Sky" Walker
- Lost in the finals of the dunk contest to a guy rocking the long white spandex under his short shorts.  I was an angry, biased 7 year old. REMINDER

Anybody else want to be a loser with me and share your hurt feelings?

Why are you doing this? These are all moments we don't talk about. Acknowledge they happened and move on.

Doing this, is comparable to but not limited to: The Denise Show on SNL, Uncle Ricco and his high school football dreams, John Hammond thinking the next Jurassic Park will be flawless, anyone that cuts themselves, and well Facebook Creepers.

But while your at it, you don't have the Memorial Day massacre?

A person that references Jurassic Park is a person that I can relate to!

"You never had control John, that's the illusion!"

When Magic chucked that ball down the court it was devastating. Every bounce of the ball was like a hammer to the heart. They could barely clear the court for us to get a chance to heave an inbounds pass the length of the court for a feeble tip-in attempt. It was soul-crushing.

I remember going to the brand new Rose Garden to watch game 5 against the Jazz in 1995. The game was in Utah, but they had opened the Garden so that fans could watch the game on the Jumbotron. We score 54 points (or something like that) and are thoroughly embarrassed in one of the worst games in Blazers history.

Can we get a counter post with the BEST Blazer memories? Come on 27 point come back!

Best Blazer moment ever, 1991 Game 6 WCF vs. Suns. Beating KJ, Hornacek, and Tom Chambers in Phoenix, Buck WIlliams hugging the ball and heaving it up in the air as time expired and an ensuing pig-pile on the court leading to the best T-Shirt ever: The Oregonian front page with "Blazers: Best in West" headline.
